Annual Conference Book Donation Requests

If you're going to the conference, you've probably already heard that we'll be collecting new and like new books for charity. But you might be wondering what kinds of books they're looking for? Here's a little more information to help you clean out those shelves (or build your shopping list!).

Books for ages 13 and up will be donated to YouthCare. Their mission is "To build confidence and promote self sufficiency for homeless and underserved youth by providing shelter, hope and support." That's right, homeless teens. It's hard for me to even grasp that. They're gladly accepting all kinds of new and used YA books, but they're especially looking for DICTIONARIES! One of the ways they help youth get off the streets and back on their feet is by tutoring them and helping them prepare to earn their GEDs. Because so many of us are word junkies, we probably have some extra dictionaries lying around, right? Even used dictionaries would be greatly appreciated!

Books for ages 12 and under will be donated to Page Ahead, the leading provider of children's literacy services in Washington State, serving more than 55,000 children in need every year. In addition to happily accepting any new or like new books for babies through middle-grade readers, they have a wish list of specific books they'd like more of here. They are also looking for picture books written in Spanish.

So, please consider bringing a book (or a box full!) from home or buying some from our bookseller at the conference. (You could even have them signed before you donate them!) These fine organizations, and the kids they serve, will love you for it!
