5th annual Bainbridge Student Writing Contest

The fifth annual Bainbridge Student Writing Contest is coming!

 

Hosted by Suzanne Selfors, who will be joined by fabulous guest judges Kevin Emerson, Martha Brockenbrough, and George Shannon, this year's theme will be "Creatures, Monsters and Beasts."

 

 

Contest Guidelines:

 

* This short-story contest is open to all local students, grades 1 - 12.

 

* Entry forms are available at Eagle Harbor Books, Bainbridge Island (or see below). 

 

* Deadline to enter is September 13. 

 

* Finalists will be announced at the bookstore on Sunday, September 15 at 3pm. Everyone who enters will receive a Certificate of Achievement in Creative Writing. Eight finalists will each receive a $50 gift certificate to Eagle Harbor Books.

Smells Like Pirates, the third book in the Smells Like Dog series, has arrived. Come join Suzanne Selfors as she celebrates her latest release, signs books, and announces the winners of a local Student Writing Contest. Pirate costumes encouraged.

Bainbridge Student Writing Contest

Suzanne Selfors is hosting the 4th semi-annual Student Writing Contest on Bainbridge Island, but you don't have to be a Bainbridge resident to enter!

 

 

 

 

WHO: Eligible writers are Western WA kids in grades 1-6

WHAT: Please write a short story, 1 to 2 pages. This year's theme is PIRATES.

6 local writers will be chosen as finalists and each will receive a $40 gift certificate to Eagle Harbor Books.

WHEN: Deadline to enter is November 4. Finalists will be announced at the big SMELLS LIKE PIRATES party on November 11 at 3pm, Eagle Harbor Books, Bainbridge.

 

Entries can be picked up at Eagle Harbor Books or downloaded from Suzanne's website.

West Sound Reads Events

WEST SOUND READS! is a consortium of Kitsap Regional Library and West Sound Independent Bookstores, including Eagle Harbor Book Co. & Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, joining together to bring premium authors to Kitsap County. Past authors include, Sherman Alexie, Lemony Snicket, Andre Dubus III, Lisa See, Rebecca Wells, Barbara Kingsolver, Henry Winkler, Rick Stever, & Philippa Gregory.

Here's their upcoming events (including one for today!):

Maggie Stiefvater will be reading from THE SCORPIO RACES on Monday, October 10, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the North Kitsap Community Auditorium in Poulsbo.

Christopher Paolini will be at the Commons at Bainbridge High School on Monday, November 28, at 7 p.m. He will be reading from INHERITANCE.

Eagle Harbor Celebrates Summer Reading

Join Eagle Harbor Book Company as they present eight weeks of summer events for kids in July and August, with special visitors, a birthday party, and a summer reading program for children from age three to twelve. Also scheduled is a special storytime with Bainbridge children's author George Shannon. All events are free, and open to the public.
