Reminder: Upcoming PAL event (open to all!)

Just a reminder that we are still taking registrations for our upcoming PAL event, which will be open to all this time!

We'll start out with our "Romancing the Store: How to Make Bookstores and Librarys Love You!" panel of booksellers and librarians, then our last 90 minutes or so will be for any topic you’d like to address in informal “think tank” discussion format with your peers. Feel free to bring questions, war stories, trouble spots, and the like. We’ll do some cat-herding to assign/label tables by popular subject areas.

When: March 4th (National Grammar Day!) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Cremona Hall 102, Seattle Pacific University

Read the details here, then sign up here! (And remember to send your money as instructed.)

Hope to see you there!

Available now: WWA Author/Illustrator Directory

Need to help a school, library, or community event organizer find great speakers who can generate excitement about books, reading, and writing? Turn them on to our new regional directory of authors and illustrators who love school visits and similar events!

Teachers, librarians, and anyone else — yes, even you! — can download this new, full-color directory. (Also see more speaker-search options for speakers from beyond our region.) We'll have a few hard copies at most monthly events, too, but teachers, librarians, and school administrators who are hankering for one now can send your name and school or library mailing address to senselj (at) yahoo (dot) com, and we'll try to pop one in the mail. (Directory participants, see a separate email about getting copies to share.) Here's to great bookish visits!

Poetry Workshop - October 1

Come and hear some of Washington's the best children's poets speak at the WWW Poetry Camp for teachers, librarians, parents, and writers! Just to
drop a few names, Julie Larios, Kenn Nesbitt, Eric Ode, and Jack Prelutsky will be present. And a few big names traveling in for the event are Kathi Appelt, Nikki Grimes, and Stephanie Hemphill, as well as some rising stars.

Workshops will focus on the craft of writing (poetic forms and techniques),  poetry performance, and publication (children’s, YA, and adult poetry), as well as teaching poetry.

When: Saturday, October 1, 2016
             9:30 am to 3:30pm
(check-out the full schedule for a guest appearance at 4:30!)

Please spread the word, especially with anyone who might need more clock hours. FIVE clock hours!

Happy Writing!

Wanted: Your upper MG and/or YA titles from 2015!

We still have space for authors of upper MG and YA books in the middle- and high-school "Behind the Books" session at Washington Library Association's October 15, 2016, conference! SCBWI-WWA is co-hosting this presentation to give our PAL members an opportunity to present their recent books to area teacher/librarians.

We didn't fill all of our available time slots with 2016 books, so we're now opening up our middle- and high-school session spaces to authors with books published in 2015 or 2016. (Sorry, the elementary school session for picture books and younger MGs is full up). So, if your PAL book works for readers in 6th grade or up, and was published in 2015 or 2016, please consider joining us for a fun, easy way to help raise your book's visibility among these book lovers (and school visit influencers)!

It'll be similar to our Inside Story events, but with a greater opportunity to mingle with attendees and talk about school visits, hand out swag, etc. Learn all the details here.

Then sign up here right away, because this opportunity won't last long!
