 Suzanne Selfors is conducting a Webinar designed for PAL members titled, LEVELING UP: Strategies for Lifting Your Career to the Next Level.  Registration for this event is open for published and pre-published members.  The cost is $20, and the recorded webinar will be available to registrants for 1 week. Crafting a character webinar

This might be just the post-conference solution to solidifying that character you're trying to nail down:

Our co-Washington State SCBWI group, Inland NW, is sponsoring a webinar with the longtime editorial consultant Elizabeth Law. This will take place NEXT SATURDAY, May 9, from 9:30–11am.

Titled "A Craft Workshop on Character," Elizabeth will discuss how to develop a character in picture books, novels, and biographies. She will end with a Q&A about aspects of the publishing industry, which she was a part of for many years.

SCBWI-Inland NW Conference

CONFERENCE 2013: Kelly Milner Halls, Keynote Speaker: Being Weird and Loving It!

This morning's fabulous keynote was Author Kelly Milner Halls. Kelly comes to us from the Inland NW region of SCBWI, and lives in Spokane, WA. Kelly has made a successful career of writing what she loves- nonfiction writing! She was the kid who always wanted to know the answers. In high school she fell in love with journalism, and later decided she wanted to write for kids. She didn’t want to write for adults, they were boring. 

She writes non-fiction because “I want the answers to my questions- and to share them with kids like me.” Kelly made us laugh and moved us to tears with her tales of her adventures as a writer (and great school visits). I love the parting words of wisdom that Kelly gave us, "Write your authentic book. There is a kid out there somewhere like you and you don’t want to disappoint them."

You know what would be lovely this time of year? A scenic road trip over the Cascades for an SCBWI conference. The leaves are changing and our 9 months of great writing weather are upon us.

SCBWI Inland Northwest is hosting their annual conference Saturday, September 29th, in Spokane, Washington. Hear great speakers like editor Stacy Barney, agent Jill Corcoran, author Kelly Milner Halls, author Maureen McQueery, and our very own charmer, illustrator/author Jaime Temairik.
