Peddles comes to town

Elizabeth Rose Stanton has a new book coming out––and is throwing a shindig to celebrate!

 Elizabeth writes, "I will be celebrating my latest picture book, PEDDLES (Simon & Schuster), at a launch party on FRIDAY, January 8 at 7pm at he University Bookstore (U District) in Seattle!

Suggested attire: striped socks and/or cowboy boots!
 

But wait, there's more! "Also, I'm super pleased to announce that both Peddles and Henny will be published in Mandarin Chinese this coming year! I don't have the exact pub dates yet, but they should be out before the end of next summer."

Great news, Elizabeth! See y'all at the University Book Store for the PEDDLES party and launch!

Henny and I had a great time this past weekend at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA. I am so honored to have been asked to read Henny for Storytime, and we sure had fun! We had lots of chicken-talk with the kids, and a book signing. It was a thrill to see Henny in the bookshop!

People just couldn't have been nicer. Speaking of nice people––two of my favorites showed up. Our own Ben Clanton and his wife, Kelsey, drove over from their new home in Andover, MA to cheer Henny on. Ben got into the spirit of things, as you can see....

It was a magical, wonderful time, in a magical wonderful place!  As Henny herself would say, "Bwwaaak!"

We're positively clucking with anticipation, and it isn't because the sky is falling.

Elizabeth Rose Stanton will celebrate the launch of her picture book, Henny, which she wrote and illustrated.

Henny is an egg-ceptional creature (I know, I know--groan!) whose chicken wings give way to human arms. She's quite a character. Come join her creator Elizabeth in helping her to fly the coop and meet the reading public that's set to devour her (oops, not like that!).

Elizabeth will appear at Secret Garden Books in Ballard on Tuesday, January 7 at 7pm.

 

Nina and Elizabeth are NEXT!

Congratulations and many huzzahs to our very own Nina Laden and Elizabeth Rose Stanton, whose new and upcoming picture books have been named to the Winter 2013-14 Kids Indie Next List! This means their books are leading the push for the latest slew of kids' books to hit the shelves this winter.

Good News for Elizabeth Rose Stanton

Good news and congratulations to Elizabeth Rose Stanton. Elizabeth's illustration was selected for the cover of the October issue of children's literature online magazine, Underneath the Juniper Tree.

Her work is also featured in this issue on page 84 with an illustration for the story BEDTIME (see the illustration below)-and two more illustrated limericks for the on-going series: THE UNFORTUNATE INCIDENTS OF TEDDY THE BEAR, featured on pages 117-18.

Hi!

I just filled out my survey for the 20th Annual Conference, but I feel compelled to send this email as an extra "thank you." As a newbie, I really didn't know what to expect (and, indeed, if I had, it would have been not to expect much--so's to avoid disappointment), but I have to say how utterly fabulous the whole weekend was! I don't usually wax poetic about things like this, but WOW--you guys did a fabulous job. I can't even begin to imagine how much work it was/is!! So I congratulate, and thank you all for making it such an amazing, memorable, and educational experience!

Finally, apropos of this, I thought I'd share a little bit of what I think of as "synchronicity" relative to the conference and this week's Illustration Friday topic, "Journey." When I read the topic on Friday morning, I thought, "oh darn, I won't have time to get my post up before I have to leave for the conference." So I made a quick sketch and decided I'd get to it when I got home. So yesterday morning, I pulled out the sketch and realized how it TOTALLY matched how I felt/feel about my experience at the conference this weekend. I Hope you don't mind that I attached my final version of it. It kind of sums it up for me :)
